Treatment for Shoulder  Pain  McKinney, Texas

Your shoulder is one of the most amazing—and complex—joints in your body. It can move in many directions thanks to the number of muscles and tendons that support it. But because it’s so active, it’s also one of the most common areas where people feel pain.

It’s very normal to want an MRI when your shoulder hurts. However, research shows that many people have “abnormal” findings on their scans—even when they don’t have any pain at all.

A 2019 study by Barreto and colleagues looked at 123 people with pain in one shoulder. When both shoulders were scanned, the same “abnormalities” often appeared on the pain-free side. These included partial rotator cuff tears, labral tears, tendinitis, bursitis, and thickened tendons.

The takeaway?
Without a major injury, these MRI findings are usually normal age-related changes, not necessarily the cause of your pain. In most cases, you don’t need surgery. Many people continue to live active, pain-free lives with the same findings on their scans.

Moving and Strengthening Make the Difference

Improving shoulder strength and stability is one of the best ways to reduce pain and protect your joint long-term. The deltoid, a large and powerful shoulder muscle, plays a big role in keeping your shoulder healthy.

Depending on your current pain level, we’ll start with exercises that are right for you—this might include:

  • Gentle isometric exercises (holding a position without moving)
  • Gradual strength training through your pain-free range of motion

These exercises help restore strength, confidence, and function so you can get back to doing what you love.

Why Physical Therapy Works Better Than Surgery

For most people, surgery for rotator cuff or labral tears doesn’t guarantee lasting relief. It often comes with long recovery times, ongoing pain, and high costs.
Research consistently shows that physical therapy produces better long-term results than surgery for many shoulder conditions.

At Tempered Physical Therapy, we focus on what truly helps your shoulder heal and move better.
